DTI issues list of fireworks meeting quality standards amid New Year 2026 celebration

The Department of Industry (DTI) has issued a list of fireworks that have met its quality standards to the public while offering tips to a safe 2026 New Year celebration.

In a social media post, DTI reminded people to only purchase certified fireworks from licensed manufacturers.

Certified fireworks should have the DTI-Bureau of Philippine Standards’ (BPS) Philippine Standard Quality Mark. A list of the approved manufacturers can be found via this link.

The DTI also reminded the public to carefully read and follow instructions when lighting a firework and to not use these when in doubt of people’s safety.

The department warned the public against picking up firecrackers that have failed to explode and using these to prank or scare others.

It also advised the public to keep doors and windows closed to block stray fireworks and to always keep a safe distance when watching.

To keep oneself safe when lighting fireworks, DTI urged the public to use a long pole and wear goggles or glasses.

To safely view fireworks, the public is advised to wear cotton or denim clothes, instead of polyester, and shoes rather than slippers.

A bucket of water or any source of water and a first aid kit must be prepared for emergencies, DTI said.

As the country nears the New Year, firework-related injuries have reached 91, according to the latest Department of Health data. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
