DOH: Road accidents amid holidays reach 1,113

Over a thousand individuals have been in road crash accidents and got injured during the holiday season, the Department of Health (DOH) said Friday. 

From December 21, 2025 to January 2, 2026, the DOH said a total of 1,113 road crash injuries were monitored from 10 sentinel hospitals. 

The number is 82% higher than what was recorded during the same period last year.

Sixty-eight of the total cases were also new or additional since December 21.

Seven people reportedly died due to road accidents amid the holidays—of which, five were killed while riding motorcycles, while two were pedestrians.

The DOH said 787 of the road crash incidents involved motorcycles, translating to 71% of the total cases. 

There were 965 individuals also found not using safety accessories, such as helmet and seatbelt, when the incident occurred.
