PNP sets up security measures for Sinulog Festival
Security measures are in place for the celebration of Sinulog Festival in Cebu, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday.
PNP acting chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. directed police units in Cebu and nearby areas to carry out a strategic and well-coordinated deployment of personnel in the area.
“The security measures are in place but just like in any major events, real-time security adjustments will be made by our ground commanders,” Nartatez said in a statement.
“All of these are intended to make sure that our kababayan in Cebu will have a peaceful and meaningful celebration,” he added.
Nartatez also tasked local police to closely coordinate with local governments and other concerned agencies in maintaining peace and order during the Sinulog activities.
The Cebu City government earlier assured the public that security and safety preparations are ready for both the cultural events of the Sinulog Festival and the religious activities for the Feast of Señor Santo Niño.
These events will be celebrated on January 18.
The feast day will have a grand parade, which will start with a Holy Mass to be presided over by Archbishop Emeritus Jose Palma, according to the PNP.
Nartatez said the PNP has not monitored any specific threat related to the festivities but police units will remain on heightened alert.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
