VP Sara: New impeachment plans ‘fundraising’ scheme by House members
Vice President Sara Duterte has claimed that a possible new impeachment complaint against her would be used as a “fundraising” scheme by certain members of the House of Representatives.
In an interview in The Hague, Netherlands on Monday, Duterte said she anticipates a new impeachment complaint will be lodged against her.
“Alam na natin ’yun na mangyayari ’yun. As expected as well, magiging katulad lang din ’yan nung nakaraan na ginagawang fundraising ng mga members of the House of Representatives ’yung pagpirma nila sa impeachment,” Duterte said
(We already know that it will happen. As expected, it will be the same as in the past, when members of the House of Representatives used the signing of the impeachment complaint for fundraising.)
“It’s all about the money diyan,” she added.
GMA News Online has reached out to the House leadership for comment and will update this story once it responds.
House public accounts panel chairperson Terry Ridon of the Bicol Saro party-list earlier said lawmakers would only prioritize the issue of a possible new impeachment complaint against Duterte on or after February 6, when a new impeachment case may be legally filed.
On February 5, 2025, the House of Representatives impeached Duterte, with more than 200 lawmakers endorsing the complaint. The Vice President was accused of betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, and other high crimes.
Duterte has consistently maintained her innocence, saying the charges were politically motivated.
She has also said she was not surprised by plans to refile an impeachment complaint against her, claiming it was being used as a “bargaining chip” by certain lawmakers ahead of the passage of the 2026 national budget.
Marcos impeachment
Duterte, meanwhile, declined to immediately comment on the impeachment complaint filed against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. with the House of Representatives on Monday.
“Sa ngayon, wala pa. Antayin natin ang mga susunod na mga araw kung meron akong reaction,” she said.
(Right now, there’s none. Let’s wait over the next few days to see if I have a reaction.)
The complaint against the President was filed by lawyer Andre de Jesus and endorsed by Pusong Pinoy party-list Representative Jett Nisay. It cited graft and corruption, culpable violation of the Constitution, and betrayal of public trust as grounds.
Malacañang, for its part, said the filing of impeachment complaints is part of the democratic process under the Constitution, adding that Marcos fully upholds the Constitution and remains confident in the country’s democratic institutions.—MCG, GMA Integrated News
