SC denies appeal of CA justice suspended amid murder allegations
The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday said it denied the appeal of a retired justice who was preventively suspended amid the murder allegations against him.
In denying the motion for reconsideration filed by retired Court of Appeals Associate Justice Isaias Dicdican, the SC said that the preventive suspension was not meant to punish him but to serve as a precautionary measure.
To recall, in April 2025, the SC charged Dicdican with gross misconduct for his alleged involvement in the murder of Atty. Joey Luis Wee. Wee was killed in Cebu City in November 2020 on the ground floor of the building where his law office was located.
The SC also ordered the discontinuation of his pension and retirement benefits pending the resolution of his administrative case.
This led Dicdican to file the present petition before the High Court.
For its part, the SC cited the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability, saying that Dicdican’s former position as a justice may have a possible influence that could obstruct the ongoing case against him.
It also ruled that his pension and retirement benefits will remain withheld until he complies with its order to submit his pensioner’s survey form and other documents.
The SC said it required the personal submission because Dicdican’s whereabouts have remained uncertain for the past two years.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
