Lacson to yield chairmanship of electoral reforms panel to Hontiveros

Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo "Ping" Lacson said Monday he will step down as chairman of the Senate Committee Electoral Reforms and People’s Participation to focus on his other responsibilities in the upper chamber.

Lacson said that he will relinquish the chairmanship of the electoral reforms committee to Senate Deputy Majority Leader Risa Hontiveros.

“Ire-relinquish kay Senator Hontiveros ‘yung chairmanship kasi puno na ako eh. Pinagusapan namin sa caucus kanina. So ima-manifest mamaya, she’ll take over as chairperson sa electoral reforms,” Lacson said in an ambush interview.

(I will relinquish the chairmanship to Senator Hontiveros because I am loaded already. We discussed it in the caucus earlier. So it will be manifested on the floor later, she'll take over as chairperson in the electoral reforms.)

He said that Hontiveros is “amenable” to taking over the electoral reforms committee.

Aside from the electoral reforms committee, Lacson is currently the chairperson of the Committee on Accountability of Public Officers and Investigations, also known as the Blue Ribbon Committee, as well as the Committee on Accounts. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
