3rd impeachment complaint vs VP Sara reaches Speaker’s office — House SecGen

The third impeachment complaint filed against Vice President Sara Duterte has been formally transmitted to the Office of the House Speaker, House Secretary General Cheloy Garafil said Tuesday.

According to a report by Isa Avendaño-Umali on dzBB Super Radyo, Garafil said the complaint was filed at the Office of Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III on Monday evening, in accordance with the Constitution and House rules.

Religious groups, priests, and lawyers filed the third impeachment complaint on Monday, accusing Duterte of betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, and other offenses over the alleged misuse of at least ₱612 million in confidential funds.

Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list Representative Leila de Lima endorsed the impeachment complaint.

The three impeachment complaints against the Vice President are expected to be included in the Order of Business and formally referred to the House Committee on Justice, which will hear the cases.

The first two impeachment complaints were filed on February 2, shortly after the Supreme Court upheld its July 2025 ruling declaring the earlier Articles of Impeachment against Duterte unconstitutional due to the one-year prohibition rule.

The High Court said a new impeachment complaint could only be filed beginning February 2026, following the lapse of the constitutionally mandated one-year ban.

One complaint was filed by the Makabayan coalition and allied groups, alleging betrayal of public trust, while the second was lodged by civil society group Tindig Pilipinas, accusing the Vice President of betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Constitution.

Duterte was previously impeached by the House of Representatives in February 2025, with more than 200 lawmakers endorsing the complaint.

However, the Senate voted in August 2025 to archive the Articles of Impeachment following the Supreme Court ruling.—MCG, GMA Integrated News
