Marcos to study bills declaring EDSA People Power anniv as regular holiday

Malacañang on Tuesday said President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. would study the proposal declaring February 25 every year as a regular holiday in commemoration of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

''Ibigay lang po nila 'yung versions nila kay Pangulo para po maaral, kung maisusumite po nila ito, 'yan naman po ay aaksyunan ng ating Pangulo,'' Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

(Just give their versions to the President so he can study it. If they can submit this, the President will act on it.)

House Bill 7911 stated that February 25 should be declared a regular holiday to commemorate “the peaceful 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution that ousted President Ferdinand E. Marcos, Sr., toppled the authoritarian regime that he established, and restored democracy in the Philippines.”

In 2023, the President moved the February 25 special non-working day to February 24, a Friday, citing holiday economics.

In succeeding years, Marcos has not included February 25 as a holiday, whether regular or special.

Castro reasoned out that businessmen are affected by the holidays, noting that those who want to commemorate the EDSA People Power Revolution can still do so.—AOL,GMA Integrated News
