DOJ, PNP hold meeting on 40th EDSA anniversary rallies
The Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) held a meeting to ensure peace and order on the rallies that would take place during the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power revolt on February 25, an official of the department said Tuesday.
Justice spokesperson Polo Martinez said the PNP and the DOJ discussed where policemen would be positioned and what areas must be monitored.
"The DOJ through its prosecutors will be on standby to assist law enforcement for the conduct of Inquest, if necessary," Martinez said in a message to reporters.
"Inquest proceedings are done to determine the validity of warrantless arrests," he added.
Several groups have expressed plans to hold a third iteration of the Trillion Peso March on Wednesday to protest corruption in government and political dynasties.
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has said that it would implement a "no permit, no rally" policy for the anniversary. The Koalisyon Makabayan has said it plans to push through with its protest along EDSA on Wednesday—with or without a permit.
The NCRPO earlier said that it would deploy 14,000 cops to ensure public safety. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
