NBI files complaint vs. vlogger over fake Marcos med cert

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Tuesday filed a complaint against vlogger "Sir Jack" with the Department of Justice (DOJ) for allegedly spreading false medical information concerning President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

According to the NBI, the complaint was for cyber libel under Section 4(c)(4) of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, in relation to Article 353 of the Revised Penal Code as well as unlawful publication under Article 154 of the Revised Penal Code.

GMA News Online has reached out to Sir Jack Argota for comment and will publish his response once available.

Argota previously appeared before the bureau in compliance with a subpoena. He submitted a statement regarding the allegations.

The NBI said Argota admitted to posting the alleged medical records for engagement purposes and “to keep up with the trend.”

“The Bureau reiterates that freedom of expression is constitutionally protected; however, such right does not extend to the malicious or reckless spread of false information that may cause reputational damage or public harm,” the NBI said.

In January, a document about the President’s supposed health information circulated on social media, which Malacañang described as “fabricated and malicious.”

The issue followed Marcos’ earlier medical consultation at St. Luke’s Medical Center due to diverticulitis, an inflammation of pouches in the wall of the large intestine.

The NBI previously filed a cyberlibel complaint against former broadcaster Jay Sonza and social media personality Eric Celiz over the incident. — BAP/AOL, GMA Integrated News
