Protesters from different sectors on Wednesday marched from EDSA Shrine to People Power Monument marking the start of the series of activities in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the People Power Revolution.

Around 8:30 a.m., the protesters gathered at EDSA Shrine and marched to the People Power Monument with placards calling out corruption and political dynasties.

Leaders from different groups recited a pledge, offered yellow and white flowers, and sang “Bayan Ko” by Freddie Aguilar in front of the monument.

This ended the first part of the third iteration of the Trillion Peso March. The main program is set to start at 3 p.m.

Merchandise, including shirts, ballers, caps, and key chains, with anti-corruption message were also being sold along EDSA.

The first Trillion Peso March was held on September 21 last year following corruption issues in flood control projects. This was followed by a similar protest on November 30, Bonifacio Day.

Organizers dubbed the event “Trillion Peso March Part 3: Tayo ang People Power Laban sa Korapsyon at Dinastiya—Noon, Ngayon, Bukas.”

One of the organizers, Kiko Aquino Dee, grandson of former President Corazon Aquino and former senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., underscored the enduring significance of the 1986 uprising.

“Forty years after EDSA, we reaffirm our commitment to channel the power and courage of the people toward 2028. Political dynasties have no place in our democracy, especially the Marcoses and Dutertes,” he said.

For Dee, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. “must be the last Marcos in Malacañang,” and Vice President Sara Duterte “must never step into its halls.”

“This is not just a rally; it is our promise to turn away from corruption, political dynasties, and all the evils of both Marcos presidencies,” he said.

The march was organized by the Buhay ang People Power Campaign Network (BAPP) and Simbahan at Komunidad Laban sa Katiwalian (SIKLAB), with support from Caritas Philippines.
