Palace: EDSA People Power won't be erased in PH history
Despite not declaring February 25 as a regular holiday, Malacañang on Wednesday acknowledged the significance of the EDSA People Power Revolution in the Philippine history.
''It's part of the history, hindi ito mabubura... hindi mabubura kung ano ang naganap noon, ang katapangan ng mga Pilipino, ang pagtanggap sa pangyayari, hindi po 'yan mabubura sa history,'' Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said at a press briefing.
(It's part of the history, this will not be erased... those that happened before will not be erased, including the bravery of Filipinos, the acceptance of what happened before, those will not be erased in our history.)
So far, the office of President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. has not released any message yet for the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the peaceful revolt.
February 25 commemorates the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution that ousted the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. — father of the current president Marcos — and installed Cory Aquino as president.
In 2023, the President moved the February 25 special non-working day to February 24, a Friday, citing holiday economics.
In succeeding years, Marcos has not included February 25 as a holiday, whether regular or special.
On Tuesday, Castro said Marcos would study the proposal declaring February 25 every year as a regular holiday in commemoration of the EDSA People Power Revolution.
According to Castro, the proposed measure has not yet reached the President. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
