Marcos urges gov’t agencies, public to find ways to save energy
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Tuesday directed government offices and agencies to find ways to conserve energy.
He issued the directive amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, which are affecting oil prices.
“...We have given instructions to all government offices to find ways to save energy. This is also my call to the public,” Marcos said in a press briefing.
“Let’s find ways to reduce our use of all sources of energy,” he added.
Marcos assured that the country has sufficient oil supply despite the Middle East tensions.
However, he noted that conserving energy can help ease the burden on consumers as oil prices are expected to rise.
“This is not just for government offices. We have issued a directive to all government agencies to find ways to save energy in every way possible,” Marcos said.
He also encouraged the public to use mass transport to conserve resources.
“All of these actions can work together. We will provide further guidance and public service announcements suggesting what people can do to reduce their energy use,” he said.
Earlier, the Department of Energy’s Oil Industry Management Bureau (DOE-OIMB) warned that fuel prices could rise by up to P10 per liter amid the US-Iran conflict.
The DOE is coordinating with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Department of Agriculture (DA) on the potential release of fuel subsidies, which may be triggered if Dubai crude averages at least $80 per barrel for a month.—MCG, GMA Integrated News
