Long queues at NAIA check-in counters amid Holy Week rush
Long lines were observed at baggage check-in counters at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on Tuesday as passengers flocked to the airport for the Holy Week exodus.
According to Jonathan Andal’s report on “24 Oras,” the Manila International Airport Authority expects around 150,000 passengers daily this week.
Despite concerns over rising fuel prices, some travelers pushed through with their plans. A family from Southern Leyte proceeded with their trip to Thailand after deciding not to forgo what they described as a rare opportunity.
Jerome Amor said they chose to continue their first international trip as a family, especially since they had already purchased round-trip tickets for four people for ₱18,000 last year.
Airlines have assured the public that there is sufficient jet fuel supply despite the ongoing oil crisis, although some flights may be reduced.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said airlines are expected to cut some flights by the end of April and early May, focusing instead on routes serving high passenger volumes.
Meanwhile, nearly 100 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) arrived in the country earlier in the day after opting for repatriation due to fears stemming from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Each returnee received ₱10,000 in financial assistance from the Department of Migrant Workers.
An estimated 1.3 million passengers are expected to pass through NAIA this Holy Week.
In provincial airports, around 550,000 passengers have been recorded so far—slightly higher than the 510,000 logged in 2025, according to CAAP.—Mariel Celine Serquiña/MCG, GMA News
