Global tourism org vows full support to new Tourism chief Angara-Mathay
The Global Tourism Business Association (GTBA) expressed its support and partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT) following the appointment of Dita Angara-Mathay as its new secretary.
“We congratulate Secretary Mathay on her appointment and look forward to working closely with her to advance the interests of the Philippine tourism industry. Just as we stood by and collaborated with past DOT secretaries in their efforts to boost local and international tourism, we are fully committed to supporting Secretary Mathay’s vision and initiatives for the sector,” said GTBA President Michelle Taylan in a statement.
Angara-Mathay replaced Christina Frasco, who was appointed as Presidential Adviser for Sustainable and Resilient Communities. The new DOT secretary served as Commercial Counselor at the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Tokyo, where she led strategic partnerships with Japanese industries, which is one of the Philippines’ key sources of investment, technology, and tourism.
The GTBA added that it is looking forward to bringing international investors and tourists to the Philippines, as well as supporting key initiatives like promoting the country as a Muslim-friendly destination and advancing halal tourism.
“We recognize the critical role of strong government-industry partnership in driving tourism forward, especially as we work to recover and expand our reach in both domestic and global markets,” the GTBA added.
“As we prepare for our upcoming Travel Exchange and Roadshow on August 7, 2026, and our Travel Sale Expo, we are ready to engage constructively with Secretary Mathay and her team to ensure that Philippine tourism continues to thrive and deliver meaningful benefits to all stakeholders,” it said. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA News
