Taxi driver in trouble for tearing traffic ticket in front of enforcer

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show cause order (SCO) against a taxi driver who went viral on social media for allegedly tearing up a traffic citation ticket on purpose.

The taxi driver was ordered to appear before the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) on April 15, 11 a.m. to submit a sworn explanation.

The sworn comment should justify why he should not be penalized for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle following his deliberate action of tearing up the traffic citation ticket issued to him by a traffic enforcer.

A video of the taxi driver’s act went viral on social media.

“Such behavior reflects a clear disregard for lawful authority and is unbecoming of a licensed driver,” the SCO read.

In a statement, the LTO said the taxi driver should surrender his driver’s license on the day of the hearing.

The driver’s license will be placed under a 90-day preventive suspension, while the taxi will be also placed under LTO alarm status.

Should the respondent fail to appear during the hearing and submit his explanation, the LTO will resolve the complaint based on available evidence.

“Mahigpit na ipinapaalala ng LTO na ang paggalang sa batas at sa mga awtoridad ay mahalaga. Hindi pinahihintulutan ang anumang pag-uugaling hindi nararapat para sa isang lisensyadong driver,” the agency added.

(The LTO strictly reminds the public that respect for the the law and authorities is important. Any behavior unbecoming of a licensed driver shall not be allowed.) — JMA, GMA News
