Beneficiaries of the Walang Gutom Program (WGP) will continue to receive free meals as food prices rise amid the ongoing Middle East conflict, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said.

The department remains committed to ensuring that vulnerable households continue to access sufficient and nutritious food, Undersecretary Edu Punay said.

“Ang WGP ay patuloy na kumikilos upang kayo ay masuportahan, hindi lamang sa pamamagitan ng food credits, kundi pati sa pagbibigay ng mga praktikal na gabay at alternatibong paraan ng paghahanda ng pagkain upang mas mapagkasya ang budget nang hindi isinasakripisyo ang nutrisyon,” he said.

(The WGP continues to take action to support you—not only through food credits, but also by providing practical guidance and alternative ways of preparing meals to help stretch your budget without sacrificing nutrition.)

Under the program, beneficiaries receive P3,000 in monthly food credits.  They are also provided with practical knowledge on food budgeting and preparation.

Through its Kalusugan, Kakayahan, at Kabuhayan (3K) Sessions, WGP also teaches participants to prepare affordable, nutritious, and appetizing meals.

The sessions also build livelihood and practical skills in partnership with agencies such as the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Launched in 2023 and institutionalized in 2024 through Executive Order No. 44, the WGP is the government’s flagship anti-hunger initiative aligned with the government's goal of addressing food insecurity in the country. —LDF, GMA News
