DICT upgrading eGov app servers to prevent downtime

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on Thursday said it is strengthening the back-end systems of the government’s flagship one-stop shop platform eGov PH app to prevent issues of downtime caused by surges in user activities.

In a news release, the DICT said it is upgrading its servers and adding more cloud capacity to handle higher demand.

The ICT Department added that it is likewise working more closely with different government agencies to ensure their systems are stable and properly integrated into the platform.

Last week, the agency clarified that the temporary downtime in accessing the eGov PH app “was not due to any security incident" but was triggered by an overwhelming number of simultaneous transactions on the platform, adding that the incident should not be a cause for concern.

“Instead of relying only on a central system, agencies are now expected to better manage their own systems while staying connected through the eGov PH platform. This is meant to reduce bottlenecks and prevent system-wide outages. The government is also seeking additional funding to support these upgrades as more Filipinos continue to use the app,” said DICT Undersecretary David Almirol Jr.

The eGov PH app had reached around 40 million downloads and was already linked to about 1,000 government systems.

As the platform grew, the DICT said outage reports began surfacing online around April 13, with many users saying they could not log in or complete transactions.

Almirol said the DICT is now focusing on building a stronger, more reliable system capable of handling millions of users without disruption. —VAL, GMA News
