Pag-IBIG, DepEd partner to prioritize teachers in housing Fairs nationwide

Public school teachers and education personnel will be given priority access to affordable housing under a new arrangement between the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Pag-IBIG Fund.

The initiative will be rolled out through a series of nationwide housing fairs, where educators can fast-track applications, receive on-site loan counseling, and access exclusive offers tailored to their income levels.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the partnership aims to ease the process for teachers who face rising property costs, limited financing options, and lack of access to housing information.

Priority lanes, on-site processing

Under the setup, education personnel will have access to dedicated service lanes and personalized assistance during the fairs, according to Pag-IBIG Fund chief executive officer Marilene Acosta.

(Our housing fairs are one concrete way to carry out the President’s directive to bring quality and affordable housing closer to more Filipinos, particularly those in the education sector.)

(Through our partnership with DepEd, we are giving teachers priority access and guidance from Pag-IBIG personnel during the housing fairs, so they can more easily find homes that are decent, affordable, and suited to their families’ needs.)

Participants will be able to:

  • Browse available housing units from multiple developers
  • Receive guidance on financing terms and requirements
  • Begin loan applications on-site
  • Registered participants will also be issued a Pag-IBIG Loan Value Card to speed up loan evaluation and pre-assessment.

The initial housing fairs are scheduled for April 27 to 28 at the Jose Rizal Coliseum in Calamba, Laguna, and April 30 to May 1 at the IEC Convention Center in Cebu City.

Depending on turnout, shuttle services may be provided to help transport participating teachers and personnel to the venues.

The program is being implemented in coordination with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, which will showcase more than 20,000 housing units during the events. Additional legs are planned for Metro Manila and Mindanao.

To make housing more accessible, Pag-IBIG said it has expanded its offerings to include discounted properties—some with price reductions of up to 45%—as well as packages designed to match teachers’ salary brackets.

Officials said the housing fairs are intended not only to provide options but also to simplify what is often a complex and time-consuming process for applicants. —VAL, GMA News
