Curlee Discaya brought to hospital for shoulder surgery

Embattled contractor Pacifico "Curlee" Discaya II on Thursday morning was temporarily taken out of Senate detention and was brought to a hospital to undergo surgery on his shoulder, Senate Secretary Mark Llandro “Dong” Mendoza said.

Mendoza said Discaya may stay in the hospital for four to seven days.

“Dadalhin si Mr. Discaya ngayon sa hospital for his procedure,” the Senate Secretary said in an interview.

(Mr. Discaya will be taken to the hospital today for his procedure.)

“Ang advice naman ng doctors niya, ano siya siguro, 4 to 7 days na magse-stay sa hospital. Pero kung maayos naman ‘yun ano niya, ma-ano siya, kahit mga 5 days pwede na siya bumalik dito sa Senate,” the Senate Secretary said.

(His doctors advised him to stay for 4 to 7 days. But if his recovery goes well, he can return here in the Senate after 5 days.)

Discaya was not handcuffed when he was taken out of the Senate premises, according to Mendoza. He was brought to the hospital via an ambulance, escorted by the police.

Security

The Senate Secretary also said that Discaya’s security will be strictly monitored while he is in the hospital.

“Same pa rin. Kung ano ‘yung set up dito sa Senate, gano’n pa rin. May nagbabantay pa rin sa kanya,” he said.

(It’s the same. The setup there will be like here in the Senate. He will be guarded.)

He also said that only limited guests will be allowed to visit Discaya from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. No cellphones will also be allowed.

Mendoza on Tuesday confirmed that Discaya requested to undergo a medical procedure on his right shoulder and was allowed to do so.

The contractor has been detained at the Senate since September 2025, after being cited in contempt by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee during one of the hearings on the anomalous flood control projects. —VAL, GMA News
