Over 50,000 families affected by Mayon's unrest —DSWD

More than 50,000 families are affected by the Mayon Volcano’s unrest, with over 1,000 of them in evacuation shelters, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Monday.

“Sa katunayan, mayroong mahigit 52,000 na mga pamilya, o may katumbas ‘yan 199,000 mahigit na tao ang apektado ng paga-alburoto ni Mayon Volcano. Sa kasalukuyan, mayroon tayong 1,444 na mga pamilya or 5,459 na individuals pansamantalang nanunuluyan sa mga evacuation centers,” said DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao in “Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.”

(In fact, there are over 52,000 families, or the equivalent of more than 199,000 people, affected by Mayon Volcano’s unrest. Currently, we have 1,444 families or 5,459 individuals temporarily staying in evacuation centers.)

Meanwhile, there are 26 families or 85 individuals who are staying for the meantime with their relatives, the DSWD added.

Further, the DSWD said that over 71,000 family food packs and more than 7,000 non-food items have been distributed so far to the affected residents.

“Mahigit 71,000 family food packs ang na-distribute ng DSWD as part of our augmentation support to the local government units; mahigit 1,400 na ready to eat food boxes na rin ang ating naipamahagi, and mahigit 7,600 non-food items ang nadistribute na to the internally displaced persons,” said Dumlao.

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Sunday ordered the rapid deployment of government assistance to the communities affected by the ashfall from Mayon Volcano’s unrest, particularly Guinobatan and Camalig in Albay.
