Dela Rosa placed under Senate protective custody
The Senate on Monday granted a motion placing Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa under the protective custody of the chamber.
It was Senator Rodante Marcoleta who raised the motion to place Dela Rosa under protective custody while the latter exhausts all legal remedies in relation to his case with the International Criminal Court (ICC).
"In the light of recent adoption of the Senate of Senate Resolution No. 44, I move that Senator Bato be placed under the Senate protective custody until he is able to exhaust legal remedies to protect himself and until this institution is able to do just the same," said Marcoleta
Dela Rosa appeared at the Senate for the first time since November 2025 to attend Monday's plenary session. He has not attended any session at the Senate amid claims that the ICC issued a warrant of arrest against him over his links to the controversial war on drugs.
Earlier, dela Rosa alleged some National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) personnel stopped him from entering the Senate premises.
The Senate cited the NBI personnel in contempt and ordered them to be put under the custody of the chamber.
The Senate was also placed under lockdown following the alleged attempt by the NBI to arrest dela Rosa.
