Senator Bato dela Rosa’s return to the Senate on Monday was met with drama after CCTV footage showed that he was chased by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents inside its premises.

The senator became emotional after NBI personnel tried to block him from entering the Senate premises. CCTV footage of the chase was shown to the plenary following his return since November 11, 2025.

In the footage, a group of individuals ran after the senator who was in a barong tagalog.

The chase went from the hallways to a fire exit of the Senate. At one point, dela Rosa tripped on the staircase in front of the pursuing NBI agents .

The chase ended after Dela Rosa went inside a room.

In Mav Gonzales' report on 24 Oras, an emotional dela Rosa recounted the events that transpired when he arrived at the Senate after being absent for several months.

"Pagpasok ko rito sa baba may mga nakaabang na mga NBI na naka sibilyan, hinarang ako. Ayaw akong paakyatin. Nakipag wrestling ako sa kanila kasi pinipigilan ako... nakipag wrestling ako para makapasok ako dito," he said.

(When I entered downstairs there were NBI in civilian clothes waiting and they blocked me. They were preventing me from going upstairs. I wrestled with them so I can get inside.

He claimed he did not know why he was being prevented to enter.

"I don't know. Baka ayaw nila akong makaboto. Para hindi mapalitan ang liderato ng Senado."

(I don't know. Maybe they did not want me to vote, to change the leadership in the Senate.)

After arriving at the plenary, a visibly upset dela Rosa was nursing an injured left hand. He and some senators reprimanded the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms, retired major general Rene Samonte for allowing NBI agents inside the Senate grounds.

"Pareho tayong PMAer. Bakit niyo pinayagan iyang mga taong iyan makapasok dito?", dela Rosa shouted at Samonte.

The senator said if their roles were reversed he would have given his life for Samonte.

This was the first time dela Rosa appeared at the Senate since November of last year after reports surfaced that a warrant for his arrest was issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Dela Rosa, a former head of the country's national police, said he is presently not thinking of the subpoena issued to him by the Philippine National Police - Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) in connection with the ongoing investigation in connection with extra-judicial killings that occurred when he was the city director of the Davao City Police.

He said he will now report for work starting today.

When asked about the arrest warrant from the ICC, the senator said he leave it up to God.

"Basta andito lang ako. Harapin natin. Ipasa Dios na lang natin lahat," he said.

(I will just be here. I will face it. Let's leave everything to God.)

GMA News has asked the NBI as to the reason for their presence at the Senate.

Former senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV said the NBI has a copy of the ICC arrest warrant against dela Rosa in connection with the crimes against humanity case involving former President Rodrigo Duterte. —RF, GMA News
