Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa on Wednesday sang what he described as the “famous lines” of the hymn of the Philippine Military Academy as he appealed to fellow PMA alumni, also known as cavaliers, to help uphold the country’s sovereignty amid the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant issued against him.

During an interview with Unang Balita, Dela Rosa sang portions of the PMA hymn before calling on fellow graduates of the country’s premier military and police academy, as well as members of the uniformed services, to stand against what he described as foreign interference.

“Lahat kami ay ayaw magpa-oppress sa mga dayuhan, na maraming tayong mga bayani ng namatay noon pa, ilang giyera na ang nagdaan dahil ayaw nating magpa-under sa mga dayuhan," he said

(We all do not want to be oppressed by foreigners. Many of our heroes died in the past, and several wars were fought because we did not want to be under foreign powers.)

Dela Rosa later clarified that he was only calling for “peaceful action” and not violence.
