The Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte arrived at the Senate on Wednesday evening.

According to Mark Salazar’s report on “24 Oras”, the Articles of Impeachment arrived via a convoy from the House of Representatives. It was received by the Senate despite the ongoing tension at the upper chamber’s premises.

The House plenary earlier voted to impeach Duterte, this time with 257 yes votes, 25 no votes, and nine abstentions.

Although the House of Representatives secured 215 votes to impeach Duterte in 2025, the Supreme Court (SC) ruled that the impeachment was unconstitutional.

The House justice committee began its impeachment hearings on March 25, which Duterte did not attend.

The Senate will sit as the Impeachment Court. Newly installed Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano said that the upper chamber will convene "forthwith" upon receipt of the Articles of Impeachment.

Meanwhile, Duterte's legal team said that they are prepared to defend her before the Senate. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/LDF/RF, GMA News
