Amb. Romualdez meets new US envoy to PH Lee Lipton

Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez and incoming US Ambassador to the Philippines Lee Lipton have met to discuss ways to reinforce bilateral economic engagement.

According to the Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C., Romualdez met with Lipton ahead of the latter’s departure for his tour of duty in the Philippines.

In October last year, the White House announced that US President Donald Trump appointed Lipton as the new ambassador to the Philippines, replacing MaryKay Carlson.

“Ambassador Romualdez welcomed the incoming envoy and expressed confidence that Philippine-U.S. relations would continue to grow under their shared commitment to advancing the interests of both countries and peoples,” the Embassy said in a statement.

During the diplomats’ meeting, the Embassy said they discussed the “longstanding and enduring alliance between the Philippines and the United States,” including opportunities to further strengthen bilateral economic engagement, security cooperation, people-to-people ties, and regional collaboration.

Romualdez and Lipton also stressed the importance of expanding cooperation in emerging strategic sectors like the processing of critical minerals, energy cooperation, advanced manufacturing, and resilient supply chains.

The Philippines’ 2026 chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the country’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) this June were also tackled. —AOL, GMA News
