Pia Cayetano says she has 'moved on' from Senate emotional breakdown
Senator Pia Cayetano jumped on a social media trend on Friday night. This, after her emotional breakdown in the Senate last Wednesday went viral online.
“Kumusta na po kayong lahat? Balita ko trending na raw po ang ‘kumusta ka?’ Kaya ako magtatanong sa bawat isa sa inyo, kumusta ka?” Cayetano said in a Facebook live.
(“How is everyone doing? I heard that ‘how are you?’ is trending. That’s why I’m going to ask each one of you, how are you?”)
The senator became emotional last May 20 as she pushed back against Senator Risa Hontiveros' remarks criticizing the Senate's apparent "return to normalcy" following last week's shooting incident.
Cayetano replied that what people locked in the Senate experienced was not insignificant and said: “Wala akong sinisisi pero pagkatapos ng lahat, pagtingin ko ng group natin, 'yung dating majority group—wala ni isang nangamusta sa amin.”
(I am not blaming anyone, but after everything that happened, I look at our group, and none from the old majority bloc checked on us.
Senator Erwin Tulfo has denied this claim and said that he was among the senators who checked on Cayetano through their chat group. Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, Senator Bam Aquino, and Senator Sherwin Gatchalian also messaged Cayetano.
During her Facebook live, Cayetano expressed gratitude to senators who checked on her after her speech and said that she has moved on.
“After my speech, maraming lumapit sa akin kasi friends po talaga kami, and I really appreciate you guys who approached me… You know what, guys, wala na sa 'kin ‘yon, wala naman akong mapapala kung ikasama pa loob ko,” Cayetano said.
(After my speech, a lot of people checked on me because we really are friends, and I really appreciate you guys who approached me… You know what, guys, it doesn’t matter to me anymore. I won’t get anything out of it anyway if I keep holding a grudge.)
“You’ve seen me expressing my feelings as somebody who is scared, who was… masama ang loob (whose feelings were hurt)… I felt bad because I am human. But what’s important for me is I was able to move on,” she added.
As seen from reports, senators from the majority bloc approached Cayetano after her speech, including Senators Camille Villar, Mark Villar, and Loren Legarda.
‘I’m a fan of psychology’
In her FB live, Cayetano reminded her viewers that people are social beings and that “the nature of being a human is social connections.”
“I want to take advantage of this trend, kumusta ka… I am a fan of psychology… I studied on my own, I read a lot,” the senator said.
“And I have to say that it is important that your loved ones know that you care for them. And ikaw din for whatever reason if you feel that wala sila don para sayo, wag mong dibdibin. Ilabas mo, sabihin mo… Then move on ka na kasi wala ka naman mapapala na bitbit mo yon the whole time,” she added.
(And I have to say that it is important that your loved ones know that you care for them. And as for you, if for whatever reason you feel like they weren’t there for you, don’t take it to heart. Let it out, speak up… Then move on, because you won’t get anything out of carrying that weight the whole time.)
An alleged shooting incident between the Senate Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms and the National Bureau of Investigation happened in the Senate on May 13.
