Vietnam President to visit PH on May 31-June 1, 2026
Vietnam President Tô Lâm is set to go to the Philippines for a two-day state visit from May 31 to June 1, 2026, Malacañang announced Wednesday.
The state visit of Lâm, who is also the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, will coincide with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Philippines and Vietnam’s diplomatic relations and a decade of the two countries’ strategic partnership.
It will also mark the first state visit of Vietnam’s party leader to the country, according to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).
Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is expected to welcome Lâm in Malacañang and hold a bilateral meeting with him.
The two leaders are expected to discuss reinforcing the relationship between the Philippines and Vietnam, focusing on more dynamic collaboration in trade and investment, food security, defense and maritime cooperation, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
The PCO also said the Philippine Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh is set to open by midyear.
Vietnam, home to more than 7,000 Filipinos, remains the sole strategic partner of the Philippines in Southeast Asia.
This year, the Philippines is the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). —VAL, GMA News
