Marcos expresses concern over personal attacks, 'fake' shooting in Senate
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Friday expressed deep concern about the growing tensions at the Senate these past few weeks, including the controversial shooting incident, which he described as “fake.”
In a press conference on the sidelines of his state visit to Japan, Marcos—a former senator—said that the discussions at the Senate have become shallow and personal.
“I watched with horror…that the Senate has become this,” the President said.
“Madalas kaming nagtitinginan ni [Executive Secretary] Ralph [Recto]—ganito ba tayo? Ganyan ba tayo nung senador ba tayo? Meron ba tayong ganyan na ginagawa? Hindi tayo ganyan. Paano nangyari ‘yun? ‘Yung Senado hindi na kagaya nung panahon natin. Dahil nagpepersonalan na eh. Naging personal, ang babaw na ng usapan,” he added.
(ES Ralph and I often look at each other—were we like this when we were senators? Did we do something like this? We were not like that. How did that happen? The Senate is not like it was during our time. It has become personal. The conversation has become shallow.)
Marcos also commented on the shooting incident at the Senate, which involved the Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms and the National Bureau of Investigation.
“Tapos narating pa tayo sa putukan. Tapos fake pala ‘yung putukan…Hindi ko maintindihan. Walang nangyayaring kagaya niyan nung panahon ko sa Senado,” he said.
(Then there was a shooting. Then the shooting turned out to be fake…I don’t understand. Nothing like that happened during my time in the Senate.)
“I never imagined that the Senate would descend into this kind of what’s happening right now,” he continued.
