Vietnamese President Tô Lâm arrived in the Philippines on Sunday for a two-day state visit that will run until June 1, 2026.

Lâm arrived at 12:40 p.m. at Villamor Air Base in Pasay City aboard a Vietnam Airlines flight.

He was welcomed by Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr.

According to the Presidential Communications Office, the visit marks the first state visit to the Philippines by Vietnam’s top party leader.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Lâm are expected to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations, with a focus on expanding cooperation in trade and investment, food security, defense and maritime affairs, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges during a bilateral meeting.

Lâm’s state visit, in his capacity as General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Vietnam and the 10th year of their strategic partnership.—MCG, GMA News
