The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) announced its current initiative to “strengthen customer notification and communication efforts” in relation to delays in delivering international parcels to customers, PHLPost said in a press release Sunday.

In a press release, PHLPost explained that international packages are inspected and verified by the Bureau of Customs to check if there are additional documents that have to be submitted by the recipient.

(This is where they check for any applicable duties or taxes, additional documents, or further verification, depending on the contents of the parcel. While some packages are processed and cleared immediately for delivery, others require a more thorough inspection.)

To reduce delays, PHLPost said that customers of parcels that will need additional documents will receive a Letter Notice (LN), text message, or an email that will instruct them on the process.

The PHLPost advises customers to also coordinate with local post offices or the concerned office once their received a notification.

According to PHLPost, the additional requirements that frequently cause delay include the proof of purchase, invoice, and permits.

(To the customer, it looks like the parcel has stopped moving. What they don’t know is that in these situations, the required checking and clearance process is still ongoing before it can be handed over for delivery.) —Lyjah Tiffany Bonzo/RF, GMA News
