Scheduled Senate visit of Vietnam President To Lam canceled

The scheduled visit of Vietnamese President and Communist Party General Secretary Tô Lâm to the Senate on Monday, June 1, has been canceled.

According to a report by Nimfa Ravelo on Super Radyo dzBB, the Senate's Office of International Relations and Protocol said the Vietnamese government canceled the visit, as well as a planned meeting between Lâm and Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano.

No official explanation for the cancellation has been released.

In anticipation of the visit, the Senate had moved its Monday plenary session to 5 p.m. from the usual 3 p.m. schedule. There was no advisory yet on whether the session would revert to its earlier schedule.

Lâm arrived in Manila on Sunday for a two-day state visit to the Philippines from May 31 to June 1, 2026, marking the first state visit to the Philippines by Vietnam’s top party leader.

Impeachment

Meanwhile, the Senate is expecting Vice President Sara Duterte's camp to submit its answer to the Articles of Impeachment filed against her by the House of Representatives.

Duterte was given until June 1 to respond to the writ of summons issued in connection with her impeachment case.

Over the weekend, Michael Poa, one of Duterte's lawyers, said they had yet to decide whether they would personally file their response before the Senate or submit it electronically. — RSJ, GMA News
