PNP releases mugshots of Jinggoy Estrada, co-accused in flood control mess

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday officially released to the media blurred mugshots of Senator Jinggoy Estrada and his other co-accused in the P573-million plunder and graft charges in connection with the flood control mess.

The Sandiganbayan 5th Division on June 1 issued a warrant of arrest against the following individuals over a P573‑million plunder and graft charges filed by the Office of the Ombudsman:

  • Senator Jinggoy Estrada
  • former DPWH secretary Manuel Bonoan
  • DPWH NCR Assistant District Engineer Denryl Caesar Sanchez Cortuna
  • DPWH NCR District Engineer Manny Bumagat Bulusan
  • DPWH NCR District Engineer Arturo Lombres Gonzales Jr.

Estrada and three of his co-accused are now detained at the Quezon City Jail - Male Dormitory.

After his surrender to the police on June 1, Bonoan stayed at the PNP General Hospital after suffering from hypertension and was later transferred to a private hospital on June 2.

Based on the mugshot, Estrada was not wearing the orange shirt for detainees and only hung it on his chest.

Criminal Investigation and Detection Group - National Capital Region (CIDG-NCR) chief Police Colonel John Guaigui said Estrada was allowed to wear his own clothes during his booking process because none of the available detainee uniforms fit him.

Guaigui said authorities were under time pressure to bring Estrada to the Sandiganbayan after receiving instructions from the anti-graft court.

“Walang magkasya na damit sa kanya. We have lahat na ng damit na available sa amin, pinasukat namin, hindi talaga magkasya doon sa build ng katawan niya,” Guiagui told reporters in an interview.

(There are no clothes that fit him. We have all the clothes available to us, we tried them on, they don't really fit the build of his body.)

“Kaya during the urgency, hindi naman na kami makakuha pa ng ibang sizes during that time ay kailangan nang i-deliver namin sa Sandiganbayan,” he added.

(So during the urgency, we couldn't get other sizes during that time we had to transport him to the Sandiganbayan.)

The CIDG-NCR official denied allegations that Estrada received special treatment. — RSJ, GMA News
