Veteran journalist Emil Jurado passes away at 98

Veteran journalist Emil Jurado died on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at the age of 98.

Jurado served as Chairman Emeritus of the Manila Overseas Press Club and a lifetime member of the National Press Club.

He is also one of the co-founders of broadsheet Manila Standard along with journalist Rod Reyes in 1987.

According to a column by Manila Standard, Jurado covered 13 presidents, from Manuel Roxas in the 1940s to Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

He launched the book on his memoirs, “The Road Never Ends,” in 2020. The book tells about his life from when he was a child in Abra, to his studies at the Ateneo De Manila.

In addition to his career in law and journalism, Jurado served as a professor at the Ateneo and his alma mater, the Philippine Law School, where he earned his law degree.

He has been married for over 70 years to Trinidad Kapunan Capistrano.

Jurado’s wake is at The Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City. A funeral mass will be held on June 9, and cremation and inurnment immediately follows. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BAP, GMA News
