PAGCOR sends 10k food pails for Mindanao earthquake victims

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has sent around 10,500 food packs to areas badly affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that hit Mindanao last week as part of its relief operations for those reeling from the disaster.

In a statement on Monday, PAGCOR said the food packs are already on its way to affected areas.

PAGCOR chairman and chief executive officer Alejandro Tengco said the agency’s assistance will help affected families cope with the challenges brought about by the disaster.

“During times of calamity, we assure our kababayans that PAGCOR is always ready to provide help. We hope and pray that affected individuals and families will soon be on their way to recovery and normalcy,” Tengco said.

PAGCOR said 3,000 food pails will be allocated each for General Santos City, Mati City, and the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Region XII. Another 1,500 food pails will be distributed in Davao Oriental’s 2nd District through the office of Rep. Cheeno Almario.

On June 8, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit off the coast of Maasim, Sarangani, causing massive destruction and taking 65 lives so far.

Authorities said over 176,000 families were affected by the powerful tremor, which continues to produce aftershocks a week after. — JMA, GMA News
