Villar siblings deny hand in LRT-1 Cavite extension
Senators Mark and Camille Villar have denied the allegation that they supposedly intervened in the alignment of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 Cavite Extension.
In a statement on Wednesday, Camille said that she was never part of any discussions regarding the LRT-1 extension project.
“I deny any allegation that I intervened, influenced, or obstructed the alignment or implementation of the LRT-1 Extension Project. I have not had any participation in any discussion, deliberation, or meeting relating to the LRT-1 extension project, either in my personal capacity or as a Senator,” she said.
The younger Villar also said she welcomes an investigation into the matter.
“I welcome any fair and impartial investigation into this matter because I am confident that the facts will establish that I have acted within the bounds of my duties as a public servant,” Camille added.
Her brother, Mark Villar, former secretary of the Department of Public Works And Highways (DPWH), also denied the accusation,
“I vehemently deny allegations that I delayed or blocked the implementation of the LRT-1 extension project. I have never used my position for personal gain. My track record speaks for itself,” he said.
He likewise welcomed “any legitimate investigation” on the matter.
The Office of the Ombudsman is reportedly investigating the allegation that the Villar siblings are interfering in the alignment of the LRT-1 extension project.
The Phase 1 of the extension project connects Baclaran Station in Pasay City to Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque City through these five new stations: Redemptorist-ASEANA Station, MIA Road Station, PITX Station, Ninoy Aquino Avenue Station, and Dr. Santos Station.
The Cavite leg or Phase 2 and 3 of the project includes the three remaining stations that have yet to be constructed, namely Las Piñas, Zapote, and Niog. —RF, GMA News
