The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said there is no identified or validated threat behind the Senate’s request for security assistance, stressing that the move is part of routine preventive measures for upcoming official activities.

In a statement, PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police organization received a request from the Senate as part of its contingency planning and security preparations.

“The Philippine National Police confirms that it has received a request for security assistance from the Senate of the Philippines as part of its preventive measures and contingency planning for upcoming official activities,” he said..

Nartatez said the request should not be interpreted as being linked to a specific security concern.

“The PNP emphasizes that there is currently no identified or validated threat associated with the said activities. The request is part of normal preventive measures to ensure the safe and orderly conduct of government functions,” he maintained.

According to the PNP, a Security Survey Inspection (SSI) has already been conducted at the venue and surrounding areas.

The findings will be used to determine the appropriate security deployment, coordination mechanisms, and contingency measures in accordance with existing protocols.

“In preparation, the PNP has conducted a Security Survey Inspection of the venue and surrounding areas. The findings of the inspection will guide the appropriate security deployment, coordination procedures, and contingency arrangements consistent with established protocols,” the statement said.

The police assured it remains committed to ensuring the safety of government institutions and stakeholders through proactive security measures.

“The PNP assures the Senate and the public of its continued commitment to maintaining peace and order and ensuring the safety of all stakeholders through proactive and professional law enforcement measures,” it added. —Sherylin Untalan/RF, GMA News
