DOJ coordinates with prosecutors over Tacloban school shooting
Justice spokesperson Polo Martinez on Monday said the Department of Justice (DOJ) has coordinated with the Office of the Regional Prosecutor of Region 8 regarding the school shooting incident in Tacloban City that left three individuals dead.
In a statement, Martinez said this is to “determine the facts surrounding the tragic incident.” He said the Tacloban City Police and the Office of the City are currently investigating the incident.
“At present, authorities are gathering all material details, including the identities of the victims, those injured, and the persons allegedly involved, as well as the circumstances and possible motive behind the incident,” he said.
According to Martinez, the DOJ will allow the law enforcement authorities and prosecutors to complete their investigation.
The shooting incident took place inside the San Jose National High School in Barangay San Jose, Tacloban City around 9 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026.
Aside from the fatalities, five individuals were injured in the shooting.
The two minors allegedly involved have been placed under police custody. —LDF, GMA News
