Marcos calls on Filipinos to build more inclusive society for refugees
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday called on Filipinos to help build a society where refugees are respected, welcomed, and given the chance to rebuild their lives.
Marcos made the appeal in a statement as he greeted the Department of Justice–Refugees and Stateless Persons Protection Unit during its 3rd National Refugee Day Forum.
“I call on all Filipinos to help build a society where those seeking safety are welcomed with care and empowered to pursue a brighter future," he said.
"Together, let us continue shaping a Bagong Pilipinas where justice, inclusivity, and respect for every human life remain at the heart of our nation’s progress,” Marcos added.
The President said the Philippines has long upheld a tradition of extending compassion and protection to refugees and stateless persons.
“As a nation founded on the values of humanity and fairness, we recognize that safeguarding the worth of every individual is not merely an act of goodwill but a responsibility of a just and civilized society,” Marcos said.
He added that the 3rd National Refugee Day Forum provides an opportunity for government institutions, development partners, and civil society organizations to deepen collaboration and expand access to education, livelihood opportunities, legal identity, and social support for persons of concern.
“May your exchanges foster stronger partnerships, inspire innovative solutions, and advance responsive policies that allow uprooted individuals to live with greater dignity and security,” the President said.—MCG, GMA News
