Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida said Tuesday the Department of Justice (DOJ) is ready to fulfill its mandate should any individual violate the law amid the protests in Manila and EDSA.

“The DOJ will always be handa and ready,” Vida said in an ambush interview.

“We have our mandate. Kapag may nag violate ng batas, nandyan yung law enforcement agencies natin, nandyan yung mga piskal natin para gampanan yung tungkulin natin, he added.

(We have our mandate. When someone violates the law, our law enforcement agencies are there, and our prosecutors are there to carry out our duties.)

On Early Tuesday morning, unidentified groups gathered along the EDSA People Power Monument in Quezon City, which resulted in heavy traffic. Based on police estimates, there were 10,000 protesters present.

A separate protest was also held in Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government has said that maximum tolerance is being observed by law enforcers, even as it appealed to protesters to observe the rule of law.

Meanwhile, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. canceled his scheduled appearance at the presidential luncheon hosted by the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines to monitor the situation on EDSA. — RSJ,GMA News
