4 people arrested, 2 cops hurt in EDSA rally

Four individuals have been arrested in the ongoing EDSA rally, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Tuesday.

NCRPO spokesperson Police Major Hazel Asilo said those arrested include the driver of a bus that allegedly moved back and forth, causing a police officer to get pinned. One individual is accused of punching a police officer, and two others were involved in an earlier commotion, according to an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

Authorities are still verifying whether all four individuals are members of the Iglesia ni Cristo.

The four people have been taken to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 8 for processing.

Asilo said two police officers were also injured during the incident. One officer was pinned when the bus allegedly moved back and forth, while another sustained injuries after reportedly being assaulted by protesters.

Both officers were brought to the PNP General Hospital for treatment.

Earlier in the day, tensions briefly escalated after authorities attempted to clear portions of the EDSA Busway occupied during the gathering, resulting in pushing and shoving between police officers and some participants.

Despite the incident, the NCRPO said the overall situation at the EDSA People Power Monument remained “generally peaceful.”

Quezon City Police District said the crowd size has grown to 10,000 at around 11 a.m.

Police deployment in the vicinity of the monument was strengthened to over 1,000 to secure the rally and maintain peace and order. —Sherylin Untalan/ VAL, GMA News
