Senate impeachment court summons 2 NBI officials to Sara Duterte trial
Impeachment court presiding officer Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero on Monday ordered the issuance of subpoenas for two National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) officials to appear in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
On the first day of the trial, Escudero ordered the issuance of subpoena ad testificandum (to appear and testify before a court) and subpoena duces tecum (to appear and produce items such as documents and records) to NBI-BARMM regional director Jeremy Lotoc, and NBI Cyber Investigation and Assessment Center senior agent John Mark Calilung.
In the prosecution panel's manifestation dated July 3, Lotoc and Calilung were among the first witnesses lined up for presentation from July 6 to July 8.
The witnesses are expected to testify on Impeachment Article 1, which details the alleged grave threat and assassination plot against President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former Speaker Martin Romualdez.
The defense team of Duterte said it would place their objections on record as the testimonial evidence is presented by the witnesses. — VDV, GMA News
