Who are Amando Virgil Ligutan, Carlo Joaquin Narvasa in Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial

As the second day of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial commenced, private prosecutor Amando Virgil Ligutan and defense counsel Carlo Joaquin Narvasa faced off during the presentation of evidence on the alleged grave threats against President Ferdinand "Bongbong Marcos Jr. and his family.

Ligutan is the managing partner of Sapayan Lim Alvarez and Ligutan Law Firm.

The law firm described Ligutan as a “top-notch court litigator” with exceptional oral and written advocacy skills who has handled high-profile civil, criminal, and public interest cases.

He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree, major in Philosophy, from the University of San Carlos, Cebu.

Meanwhile, he earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law.

According to the firm, he was a member of the UP Law Jessup Team, the Philippine Team that competed in the 7th Asia-Pacific International Moot Court Competition on International Law in Hong Kong and in the 2009 Jean Pictet International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition in France.

Currently, he is a professor of Labor Law, Remedial Law, Public International Law, among others, at the UP College of Law, University of San Jose-Recoletos School of Law, and University of Cebu.

Meanwhile, Narvasa is a senior associate of Fortun Narvasa and Salazar Law Firm.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Juris Doctor degrees from the Ateneo de Manila University.

According to his firm, his practice areas are arbitration, corporate and commercial practice and corporate rehabilitation, litigation and dispute resolution, and projects, mining, and natural resources.
