ICC Trial Chamber cancels Duterte's July 14 status conference

The International Criminal Court (ICC) Trial Chamber III has canceled the third status conference of former President Rodrigo Duterte scheduled on July 14.

“The Chamber decided as such in light of the parties and participants indicating that they do not have specific matters which require attention at this stage of the proceeding,” the ICC said in a statement.

The next status conference will be held on September 16, Wednesday and his trial is set to commence on November 30, Monday.

The first status conference was held on May 27, where the Chamber set the opening of Duterte’s trial for crimes against humanity over alleged killings during his time as President and Davao City mayor on November 30, 2026.

The Chamber also ordered a re-examination of Duterte’s fitness to stand trial.

On the second status conference on June 23, the Trial Chamber warned parties in the case about commenting to the media regarding the proceedings.

Duterte is facing charges for crimes against humanity over alleged killings during his time as President and Davao City mayor.

He was arrested in March 2025 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.

The former official is currently detained at the ICC Detention Centre in Scheveningen in The Hague, The Netherlands.

The first status conference was held on May 27, where the Chamber set the opening of Duterte’s trial on November 30, 2026.
