Prosecution eyes subpoena for ‘Mary Grace Piattos’

The House prosecution panel on Tuesday said that it is planning to request the issuance of a subpoena for the infamous “Mary Grace Piattos” to compel her to attend the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

House private prosecutor Atty. Lorna Kapunan said this in an ambush interview, but clarified that the prosecution has still not found Mary Grace Piattos---one of the supposed recipients of confidential fund payouts from the Office of the Vice President.

“Isa-subpoena ko nga si Mary Grace eh…Piattos,” Kapunan said in an ambush interview.

(I will subpoena Mary Grace Piattos.)

Asked when the subpoena will possibly issued, she said, “Hinahanap pa namin eh. Hindi pa namin makita. Kung sa’n sa’n na kami pumuntang Mary Grace, wala naman do’n.”

(We’re still looking for her. We haven’t found her yet. We’ve been searching for Mary Graces but she’s not there.)

Kapunan said that should the issuance of the subpoena be granted by the Senate impeachment court, it may be delivered to the OVP headquarters in Mandaluyong City.

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) previously said that it has no record of "Mary Grace Piattos" in its database, meaning she has no recorded certificate of live birth, certificate of marriage, and certificate of death.

The name Mary Grace Piattos resurfaced on the impeachment trial on Monday, when the prosecution panel presented it as one of the names in the acknowledgment receipts that covered the release of P125 million worth of confidential funds in the last days of December 2022.

Mary Grace Piattos has been listed as part of the House prosecution team's witnesses for the impeachment trial of Duterte, based on the pre-trial brief. —AOL, GMA News
