PHIVOLCS: No tsunami threat following strong Colombia earthquake

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) announced that there is no available tsunami threat to the country after a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Colombia on Monday.

"No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data. This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake," the PHIVOLCS said in an advisory.

The agency added that there is no action required.

The earthquake, which struck Colombia at 8:35 p.m., had a depth of 120 kilometers.

An earthquake shook Colombian capital Bogota on Monday, with the tremor being felt as far away as the border with Venezuela, according to Reuters witnesses.

The Colombian geological service reported that the quake's epicenter was in Choco province, on the Pacific coast. — BAP, GMA News
