Loren Legarda on medical leave from Aug 11 to 12, 2026 — Senate Secretary Bantug

The medical leave of Senator Loren Legarda has been extended for two more days, according to Senate Secretary Atty. Renato Bantug Jr. on Tuesday.

According to Bantug, Legarda’s office notified that the senator will be on leave from August 11 to August 12, 2026.

“Sen. Loren Legarda’s office wrote me to inform that ‘Senator Legarda will be on medical leave from 11 to 12 August 2026,’” Bantug said in a message to Sandra Aguinaldo of GMA News.

Legarda earlier confirmed that she filed a formal medical leave with the Senate covering August 3 to 5, 2026, “in accordance with Senate rules.”

She also asked the public not to draw "unwarranted conclusions" from her medical leave and her travel.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) earlier announced that Legarda had flown to France while her son, Representative Leandro Leviste, flew to Hong Kong.

The mother-son lawmakers are facing complaints for plunder and graft in connection with the alleged failure by Leviste’s renewable energy firm to provide solar power, as mandated in its congressional franchise.

Ombudsman Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla explained that Legarda is included in the case because Leviste was able to secure the franchise while she was the Senate Finance chair in 2019. Both Legarda and her son have denied the allegations. — RSJ, GMA News
