Comelec removes expiration of poll service credits for teachers 

Teachers could now avail of the service credits they earn from election-related work any time after they rendered their duties, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday.

In Resolution No. 11212-A, the Comelec said it recognized that it needed to amend its rule stipulating that teachers needed to avail of the service credit three months after the special elections, plebiscites, initiatives, referenda, or recall elections.

“For NLES (National and Local Elections), BSKES (Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections) and BPEs (Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections), special elections, plebiscites, initiatives, referenda, or recall elections, the service credit may be availed of at any time after the date of the election or electoral exercise,” the Comelec said.

Before this, several teachers’ groups have raised the issue with the Comelec, asking the commission to remove the expiration.

The Comelec said that it has taken into consideration the concerns raised by the Alliance of Concerned Teachers Party-list and the Department of Education.

The resolution will take effect immediately upon its publication in two newspapers, as well as its publication on the Comelec website. —Jean Mangaluz/LDF, GMA News
