Marcos on 2028 presidential polls endorsement: Too early to tell

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Friday said that it is still too early to endorse someone for the 2028 presidential elections, but assured to tap the “best possible candidate” who may continue his administration’s anti-corruption measures.

“I will certainly endorse a candidate in the 2028 elections. Who that is, I cannot tell you because even I don't know… It's a little early for that,” Marcos said during a dialogue with the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP).

The President said that so far, only “one person has put her hat on the ring,” apparently referring to Vice President Sara Duterte.

Marcos, however, said that many political events are still going to happen before the 2028 national elections, despite surveys showing preferences.

“And so, it's very hard for me to, for myself, even to make a decision. I would say that if I decided now, it would be premature. We have to see how things really shape up,” he said.

He also said that he has not sat actually down with anyone and asked if they want to run for president or not.

“The time will come,” Marcos said.

“We will certainly provide the best candidate with the betterment of the lives of every Filipino. We will choose the best possible candidate who will continue what we have started,” he added. — RSJ, GMA News
