Claire Castro to Sara Duterte camp: Are you issuing another threat?
Palace Press Officer Usec. Claire Castro on Friday hit back at the camp of Vice President Sara Duterte for saying that other incumbent impeachable officers, such as the President, may be indicted and prosecuted if the same goes for a sitting vice president.
In a statement, Castro asked if Duterte’s camp is issuing another threat to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
“Are they issuing yet another threat? It appears to be the same narrative,” she said.
Regardless, Castro stressed that no one is above the law.
“Anyone who violates the law or abuses their authority must face the consequences of their actions,” she said.
“In fact, any impeachable official may be impeached provided there are valid grounds, rather than cases built on fabricated evidence and paid false witnesses. Let us put an end to the infamous culture for which they are known,” she added.
Castro’s statement came after Atty. Paul Lawrence Lim, counsel for Duterte in the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) grave threats case, said they are filing a manifestation emphasizing the need for oral arguments on the Vice President’s motion to quash.
According to Duterte’s lawyer, the grave threats cases have “far-reaching consequences.”
Lim also argued that the case could have implications beyond Duterte’s prosecution.
“If a sitting Vice President may be indicted and prosecuted, then other incumbent impeachable officers such as the Ombudsman, members of the Constitutional Commissions, Supreme Court Justices, and even the President, may also be indicted and prosecuted,” he said. —AOL, GMA News
